The School of Economics, University of Hyderabad (UoH), successfully organized a special public lecture by Prof. Hiranya K. Nath from Sam Houston State University, USA on July 17, 2018 at Economics Seminar Hall.

Prof. Nath spoke on the topic ‘Energy, Economy and Environment: Revisiting Evidence from B(R)ICS countries’. In his lecture, Prof. Nath spoke on the relationship among three aspects (energy use, economy and environment) of five major emerging market economies, namely, Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS). Besides inter-linkages among major study variables, he also spoke on two-strand hypotheses like conservation hypothesis, feedback hypothesis, growth hypothesis, neutrality hypothesis etc. The main objective was examined for each country individually.

The seminar was chaired by Prof. Naresh Kumar Sharma, Dean, School of Economics, UoH. Prof. Phanindra Goyari, faculty in the School of Economics, coordinator of this lecture, introduced the speaker to the participants. The seminar ended with the formal vote of thanks by Dr. Krishna Reddy Chiteddi, Assistant Professor of School of Economics.

About the speaker:

Hiranya K Nath is currently a Professor of Economics in the Department of Economics and International Business, Sam Houston State University (SHSU) in USA. He has been teaching at SHSU since 2002. He holds a PhD degree in Economics from Southern Methodist University, Dallas (USA). His teaching and research areas of interest/specializations are in Macro and Monetary Economics, Development Economics, Applied Econometrics and Information Economics. With his own earnings, he has instituted the Assam Scholarship Fund at SHSU and has been awarding three one-time scholarships, popularly known as “Assam Scholarship Award”, every year to undergraduate students for academic excellence since 2009. He has successfully hosted three UGC Raman Post-Doctoral Fellows from India and a few visiting scholars from other countries at SHSU.
