For the first time the University announced the Chancellor’s Awards for the year 2013 to five young faculty, in recognition of their overall contribution to the University in various spheres that include research, teaching and mentoring of students.

This year’s winners are:

Dr. R. Balamurugan of the School of Chemistry for his research in the area of Catalysis and Synthetic Organic Chemistry.

Dr. Aparna Devare

Dr. Aparna Devare

Dr. Aparna Devare of the Department of Political Science, School of Social Sciences for her work on the dynamics of politics and political formations during the colonial period.

Dr. Surajit Dhara

Dr. Surajit Dhara

Dr. Surajit Dhara of the School of Physics for his research in the area of experimental soft condensed matter physics.

Dr. Amit Kumar Mishra

Dr. Amit Kumar Mishra

Dr. Amit Kumar Mishra of Centre for the Study of Indian Diaspora, School of Social Sciences for his research work on emigration of Indian workers to plantation enclaves during the colonial period.

Dr. Pammi Pavan Kumar

Dr. Pammi Pavan Kumar

Dr. Pammi Pavan Kumar of the Department of Telugu, School of Humanities for his research contributions in Telugu linguistics.

These awards were given by Prof. C H Hanumantha Rao, Chancellor of UoH at the XV Convocation on October 1, 2013. The award consists of a grant of Rs.1 lakh to be made available to the awardee over a period of two years for the purpose of research support, as well as a certificate. The nominations for these awards were made by the Deans of Schools/ Heads of Departments/ Directors and Coordinators of Centres of their colleagues below the age of 40 years (as on 15-7-2013).

The nominations were based on the following criteria:

  1. Research publications in the last 5 years, based on work primarily done at the University.
  2. Research grants received during the last 5 years.
  3. Teaching contributions: courses taught, new courses designed and other contributions to teaching, particularly mentoring of students at all levels.
  4. Contribution to the School/Department/Centre.
