Mr. Rohith Vedhthaanth, IMSc 2013-2018 batch student from the School of Physics, University of Hyderabad (UoH), has been offered a fully funded graduate position from the University of Alberta – a research university located at Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Alberta University has been recognized by the Academic Ranking of World Universities, the QS World University Rankings and the Times Higher Education World University Rankings as one of the top five universities in Canada and one of the top 100 universities worldwide.

Rohith has been chosen to work in the area of Particle Physics as a part of the thesis-based Master’s programme. The Department of Physics offers him financial support through Graduate Research Assistant Fellowship for the same. The research groups at the University of Alberta are a part of the International IceCube, PINGU, SNO+, ATLAS, DEAP, PICO and MoEDAL collaborations. Rohith intends to work on particle detection mechanisms, understanding neutrinos and their properties.

Mr. Rohith Vedhthaanth did his Master’s project under the guidance of Prof. Ashok Vudayagiri. Through his earlier summer internships, he got opportunities to work under the guidance of Prof. H.S. Mani, Chennai Mathematical Institute and Prof. S.V.M.Satyanarayana, Pondicherry University.

At the end of 4th year of his I.M.Sc. program at UoH, he had the opportunity to work with Prof. Rodrigo Fernandez, University of Alberta, as part of the University of Alberta Research Experience program (UARE-2017) during which he got to know about the particle and astroparticle research groups at University of Alberta. Rohith Vedhthaanth has been a coordinator of both JSC (Junior Science Club) an active science club at college for integrated studies, University of Hyderabad and ETHER (Engaging Talks on Highly Exciting Research) an active science club of School of Physics at University of Hyderabad. He was one among the 50 students, selected from all over India to attend IIST Astronomy and Astrophysics School 2016. As a hobby, he likes taking photographs of the night sky, star trails, etc.
