Mr. Tushar Lodha Ph.D Scholar in the Department of Plant Sciences, School of Life Sciences, University of Hyderabad (UoH) has recently received Dr. K. V. Rao Young Scientist Award 2017 in the subject of Biology.

Mr. Tushar Lodha presented a paper titled “Draft genome sequence of Rhodomicrobium udaipurense JA643T with special reference to hopanoid biosynthesis and mining bacterial genomes for hopanogenesis”.

Mr. Tushar is working under the guidance of Prof. Ch. Venkata Ramana, Department of Plant Sciences, School of Life Sciences, UoH. He completed his M.Sc (Biotechnology) from Visva-Bharati, Central University. After qualifying CSIR-UGC-JRF he got the admission for Ph.D. in Department of Plant Sciences, School of Life Sciences, UoH in March 2012. His thesis titled “Mining bacteria for hopanoids and genomic insights of hopanogenesis: A critical analysis of the global transcriptional response of shc mutant of Rhodopseudomonas palustris TIE-1. He has so far published 23 research papers in international journals. Currently, he is writing few more manuscripts from his research work, which are being planned to be submitted to high impact factor journals.

Mr. Tushar is very much interested in exploring the prokaryotic richness in the environment and exploiting them for human well-being. In future, Tushar would like to obtain a position as a Scientist in an organization that provides an atmosphere and facility for research just like the University of Hyderabad and like to work on challenging assignments and contribute to the state of art in the field of microbiology which will be helpful to the society.
