1421 students graduate at the XIX Convocation of UoH
Five faculty of UoH given the Chancellor’s Award for Meritorious Teaching and Research

1421 students were awarded their degrees at the XIX convocation of University of Hyderabad (UoH), on Sunday, 1st October 2017. The event, held at Brahma Kumaris Shanti Sarovar, had Dr. G. Satheesh Reddy, Scientific Advisor to Raksha Mantri and Director General, Missiles and Strategic Systems as the distinguished Chief Guest. 229 were Ph.D. holders and 105 were meritorious students who received Gold Medals for exemplary performances in their respective fields.

The event started with arrival of academic procession to the convocation hall with the Chief Guest Dr. G. Satheesh Reddy. After which the Chancellor Dr. C Rangarajan declared the convocation open.

Dr. C Rangarajan, Chancellor of UoH, Prof. Appa Rao Podile Vice-Chancellor of UoH, Prof. B.P. Sanjay and Prof. P Prakash Babu Pro Vice-Chancellor’s of UoH, Shri P Sardar Singh, Registrar UoH and Deans of various schools were amongst the dignitaries who graced the occasion with their valuable presence.

The following teachers of the University were given the Chancellor’s Award at the Convocation for their contributions in teaching and research for the year 2017:

Dr. Satheesh Reddy, in his Convocation address motivated the graduating students to perform well in their career and Life. “As you step out of the University and step into the Society, the way you conduct yourself will speak volumes about your University and the Professors from whom you have gained knowledge”, he added. “It’s a privilege to be here at the XIX Convocation of UoH which has grown tremendously over the last 43 years”, Dr. Reddy stated. Encouraging the students to be entrepreneurs, he mentioned that universities are the engines of innovations and academicians, research centers and the industry can together work for the development of the country.

Earlier Dr. Satheesh Reddy presented medals to the meritorious students of the University.

Ms. Shaik Shakeela from MA-Telugu was awarded four Gold Medals for her meritorious performance. These include Prof. P Ramanarasimham Medal, Shri Nittala Venkata Somayajulu Memorial Medal, Mahakavi Dasu Sreeramulu Medal and Smt. Ravuri Kantamma Bhardwaja Medal.

Late Sooryaprakash was awarded the PhD in Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy posthumously. His brother Mr. Jayaprakash received the degree from the Chancellor Dr. C Rangarajan.

In his address to the gathering, Prof. Appa Rao Podile, Vice-Chancellor UoH, congratulated the students and wished them luck for their bright future. Talking about the achievements of the University of Hyderabad, VC said. “The university has completed 43 years and is rated as one of the top universities in India and is achieving honors and attaining standards that set a bench mark.” Further he applauded the remarkable contribution of faculty members to the institution in their respective genres. Quoting Mahatma Gandhi in the end his advice to the new graduates was, “You must be the change you want to see in the world.”

The gathering also witnessed the presence of faculty, parents and family members who were there to encourage and applaud the achievement of graduating students.

The program concluded with the National Anthem after which the auditorium turned into festive mode as students clad in off-white ethic wears joyously congratulated each other and posed for the shutterbugs.
